The centre initially held extracurricular music classes in the building of the Leeds Institute, which now houses the Leeds City Museum. Six years later, the Music Centre became an affiliate of the University of Leeds and was renamed Leeds City College of Music.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 1993, the institution launched the first jazz degree in Europe. Four years later, it moved into a new purpose-built facility designed to accommodate the conservatoire&#8217;s needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2011, Leeds Conservatoire merged with Leeds City College. To enhance the educational process, \u00a32 million was allocated in 2012 for the renovation of recording studios and other facilities. Additionally, the conservatoire acquired 54 Steinway pianos, becoming the only All-Steinway School in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The concert hall, The Venue, was also upgraded, a music library was established, and the fifth floor of the main building was renovated to include new rehearsal rooms and learning spaces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The institution has also introduced new initiatives. In 2017, Leeds Conservatoire launched the \u201cSounds Like THIS\u201d festival. A year later, the festival received a grant from Arts Council England.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2018, the institution regained its status as a higher education institution. The following year, it began collaborating with Opera North. Students can combine two pathways. Additionally, the conservatoire offers a one-year foundation certificate. Upon completing a three-year programme, students earn a Bachelor of Arts degree.
